Three Sisters Racetrack Recreation
Recreation of a real life race track, using Digital reconstruction techniques such as Laser Scanning and Photogrammetry to get the digital counterpart as close to real life as possible. The track surface and layout is as detailed as possible, so that it can easily be ported into a simulator and be almost identical to the real life counterpart and then used in VR. The lighting at the track is as realistic as possible, using techniques learnt in Architecture design. I have created all of the assets that surround the track including but not limited to; tire barriers, trees and buildings. The assets were modelled in speedtree, Maya, Meshroom, then put together in Unreal engine. The tyre asset was created using laserscanning, the traffic cones and bollards were created using photogrammetry. I created natural looking fauna using SpeedTree, which surrounds the track while keeping the track model optimised so that it performs well in game. Texturing and normal maps with lots of detail were created using substance painter or by using high and low poly models. I used a mixture of google maps’ terrain data, as well as photo reference to ensure that the terrain for the race track is as close to real life as possible, which ensures that the tracks elevation is correct which can make the difference between a track that feels realistic and a track that feels off.
